Exodus: Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory

A Sermon Based on Exodus 40:34-38

Today we take a look at the epic ending that Moses places onto his epic book, Exodus. What does he show us there? The glory! What makes it hard for us to keep seeing it? What assures us that it is always with us? The Glory in Exodus promises through this Word to lead us all the way to glory.

Exodus: Who is the Lord?

A Sermon Based on Exodus 33:18-34:10

What is the Lord’s most amazing feat? The wonder that is more wonderful than the plagues? The miracles that are more improbably than the parting of the Red Sea? What is it that puts Moses’ jaw on the ground and ours too? This Reformation Sunday sermon reveals that the Lord characteristically forgives!

Exodus: The Lord's Presence

Exodus: The Lord’s Presence

A Sermon Based on Exodus 33:1-17

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “Life is a journey, not a destination.” He would have been more right if he would’ve said, “This life is a journey.” The point remains, though, that we are all in this life on a journey. What makes the journey worthwhile, good, and ok? This sermon maintains that the special, saving presence of the Lord is what does that. The very presence we need, however, is the presence we cannot have. Why is that and how does the Lord deal with that?

Exodus: The Original Sin

Exodus Part 1 PP.png

Exodus: The Original Sin

A Sermon Based on Exodus 32:1-14

We can think of this biblical story about the golden calf as a description of Israel's original sin. Of course, it was not the first sin in history, but it was the first public, shared sin of Israel, whom the Lord had just adopted as his own people. What can God’s people learn from it today? We can learn much about ourselves and our relationship with others, but also, most importantly, about our relationship with God.

Exodus: Meeting God

A Sermon Based on Exodus 19:9-24

Why do we leave places? Sometimes we leave to leave. We simply want to escape. Other times we leave to get somewhere. Of those two options, which was the Exodus about? Was it about getting away from Pharaoh? No, it was never about that. It was always about meeting with God. Our lives, too, are heading to that great time of meeting God. How are we to meet him? This sermon explores what this Scripture teaches.

Exodus: Holding Up Each Other's Arms

Exodus: Holding up Each Other’s Arms

A Sermon Based on Exodus 17:8-13

We continue our march through the wilderness. Here we run into a most intractable foe: Amalek. It is a foe that picks off the vulnerable and the weak. How does the Church win in the battle? What do we learn? The Church holds up each other’s hands. This sermon looks at what the Church does and why she does it. More though, it looks at what Christ did for the Church when she failed in her calling. He fought all alone to hold onto us.
