Pastor | Jonathan Bourman
pastor@peaceinaiken.com

Ever since he can remember Jonathan wanted to a be a pastor. He can never actually recall not wanting to be one. He even attended a high school to start on that path called Luther Preparatory School. He continued his studies for the pastoral ministry at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN (class of 2004), where he received a Bachelor of Arts and, more importantly, met his bride, Melanie Bourman. Upon graduation he did his graduate work at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI. He graduated with a Masters of Divinity in 2008. Upon graduation, he pastored a large church called Trinity Lutheran in Brillion, WI for about six years before he was called to be the planting pastor of Peace in Aiken, SC in 2014. He is a blogger, writer for a national periodical called Forward in Christ, commentator on a podcast called The Notable, a formal mentor of other pastors, and an informal support for fellow church planters. He is currently working toward his doctor of ministry degree.

He enjoys running, reading, hanging out with his wife and daughter and being in South Carolina in general. Mostly though, he just wants to love other people, invest in those relationships, and hold to the promises of Jesus with them.

By grace alone. By faith alone. By God's Word alone.

In a nutshell, that's what we believe at Peace. We believe that men, women, and children are rescued from sin and its effects by the rich and undeserved mercy of God, and that through a heart-level trust in Jesus called faith, forgiveness and real, lasting life become ours. We believe this because it is the clear and bright truth of God's Word. In it we believe we're given the only rule and norm for all life and faith - making us aware of sin, forgiveness in Jesus, and giving us empowerment for Spirit-filled living.

We confess this:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth,

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified died, and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

These words of the Apostles' Creed, along with the Nicene and Athanasian Creed, have served as summaries of Spirit led and scriptural faith since the earliest days of Christianity.

We are proudly this:

Lutheran. Specifically we are associated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. To be Lutheran simply means that we accept the scriptural truths that ignited the reformation of the Christian church in the 16th century and led to a renewed focus on the gospel.

As a result we uphold a lavish and beautiful view of God's love: that a person is saved by God's grace through faith, apart from works. We confess that God is so powerful and so searching with his love that he is actively working through the gospel in the Word, baptism, and Lord's Supper saving and sustaining sinners.

To learn more about this faith and grow deeper in it with us, join us for Peace 101
