Jesus, Risen Son

A Sermon Based on Matthew 28:11-20

The stakes are high for this sermon. To speak on Easter Day into a pandemic is a high responsibility. This sermon explores this Scripture in two parts. The first part examines what an authentic telling of the Easter story looks like. The second part examines what an authentic response to that story looks like in the heart of the Christian. The Lord is risen! He is risen indeed!

Jesus, King of Pandemic

A Sermon Based on Matthew 21:1-11

This Palm Sunday sermon is not a normal Palm Sunday sermon. It cannot be for obvious reasons in this pandemic. This sermon, however, aims higher than recognizing that difference. It aims to be transformational in the life of the listener by holding up who Jesus really is at this time: the King.

Jesus and Your Treasure

A Sermon Based on Matthew 13:44-46

This sermon takes a look at fraternal twin parables. It examines how these parables contrast but finally looks at how they are the same. In the process, the ways in which the kingdom of God is hidden from us naturally is revealed to us by Jesus. What is the pearl? What is the treasure? What does it mean to sell everything and leave the marketplace?

Jesus and Your (Un)belief

A Sermon Based on Matthew 11:16-28

In this teaching, Jesus explores unbelief and faith. As he does, he lays bare the root causes of unbelief. He argues that unbelief is not what unbelievers say it is. He then explains the nature of faith and calls us to it. This sermon seeks to examine the truths that Jesus lays out for us and, finally, revel in the beautiful call to faith that Jesus gives to us all in closing.

Jesus and Your Temptation

A Sermon Based on Matthew 4:1-11

There are four temptations in Matthew 4. What are they? The first three are apparent even if they do need some explanation. This sermon moves through this Scripture sequentially expositing each of the temptations. Along the way, Jesus shares his method of beating temptation, but, more, he shares that he has overcome temptation. The sermon closes with a look at how Jesus is our great champion in our failure.

Jesus and Your Audience

A Sermon Based on Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18

This sermon, preached on the occasion of Ash Wednesday, moves through Jesus’ portrayals over various actors: the prayer, the faster, and the giver. It seeks to show the listener how and why we often play to the wrong audience as they did. It then moves the listener onto a different stage before a different audience. It seeks to make the unseen seen and make the listener an actor who plays to the only audience that has ever mattered.
