Coming Forth with Golden Wisdom

(A Sermon Based on Job 28:1-12, 28)

This chapter of Job seems out of place. We can call it an aside in the book of Job. Perhaps though we should give it a more elegant name. Perhaps we should call it an interlude. But is it really just an interlude? Does it really have nothing to say about suffering? And why is there such a profound and beautiful description of ancient mining? Why these verses - this incredible hymn to human progress? These and other far more profound questions find their answers in this sermon. Listen in!

Coming Forth as Golden Friends

Coming Forth as Golden Friends

(A Sermon Based on Job 5:1-7)

Maybe you’ve noticed that humans have an almost supernatural ability to say the wrong thing at the wrong time. Maybe you’ve further noticed that that means we have an almost uncanny ability to increase the pain of others instead of lessening it. Why is that? What’s in us that causes that? And how do we combat that in our lives and become people who are truly balm during the suffering of others around us? This is a sermon that explores that and finds in Jesus forgiveness and empowerment to be a true friend to others in this life. Listen in!

The Rule of Jesus Begins

(A Sermon Based on Luke 1:26-45)

There is an achingly real Mary that we need to notice here. Why? Because we all have achingly real lives. When we truly see her, we can truly see how Jesus comes to us. He comes as Savior and God. We don’t immediately rejoice over that, but the Spirit gets us there. Listen in to see how.

Religion that Works to Bring Heaven to Earth

(A Sermon Based on James 3:17-4:10)

We all have an onboard belief system. We all are inherently religious even if we claim to be secular. What is that belief system? Me first. We believe that belief system so deeply that it’s raising up a little piece of hell in all of our lives. In every case it’s why we’re fighting. James calls to us in his most powerful part of his writing to turn us from that. And why? To bring heaven all the way to earth for each other just like Jesus did for us. Listen in.

Wild for Worship

Wild for Worship

(A Sermon Based on John 2:13-22)

This is a Jesus who blows up any caricatures we might have of him. He's a whip wielding, chaos creating Jesus. Nobody quite understood why he was that in that moment. We rarely do in our moments either. This is a sermon that explains why that is. Why we struggle to understand Jesus' passion for true worship; how much we need it; and how Jesus has provided it. Tune in below for a true and life-giving moment of worship.

The God Who Makes Us Laugh

The Second Sermon in a Series called Romans: The Gospel According to Paul Based on Romans 4:18-25

Life can often look so barren. Like such a wasteland of busted hopes, dreams, and relationships. The Christian faith is the story of a group of people who hold to faith in a God who not only can bring them to a perfect and secure life, but also wants to. And this despite the many reasons these same people have given their God to change his mind about what he wants to do for them. Listen in to find out what makes them so confident.
