Peace Lutheran is a group of people excited and committed to doing one thing well: bring real peace to real people.  You'll see that in our committed outreach and service. You'll see it as we gather around God's message to us, Jesus Christ. And, finally, you'll see it as we become more rooted in that peace through growth groups and deep doctrinal teaching. But, honestly, we don't want you just to observe it. We want you to believe it, have it, and live it with us!

Our Story

In the spring of 2013, Peace Lutheran was just an idea in the minds of a group of mission minded people in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Studies were done and a plan was put together to launch a confessional Lutheran church in Aiken, South Carolina. That plan was pitched to a national church body called WELS, an acronym that stands for the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, widely considered to be a theologically conservative church body. That's when God acted powerfully. People got excited and a good plan suddenly got the solid backing it needed.

Next step. Get a pastor. The call came to me, Jonathan Bourman, late on September 19, 2013. I still remember it like it was yesterday. A pastor from Florida was on the line. He said, "You have a call to start a church in Aiken, South Carolina." I don't remember the rest of the conversation. All I remember was that those words started running circles around my mind. The rest - as they say - is history. It took me about two solid weeks of conversations, study, and prayer. And then I knew. I knew that as happy as my little family was in Wisconsin it was time to move to Aiken, South Carolina.

It was almost immediately after our move to Aiken that God started putting Peace together. Months before we ever even launched the church, people began to get excited about our commitment to focus our teaching on the height and the depth of Jesus' work. We officially launched on December 7, 2014 at 10 am at the Aiken Municipal Auditorium. God's blessed us. On an average Sunday now there's about 70 of us. We're excited to keep reaching Aiken.
